Deal With Your Current Job: Find a New Job: |
There are many ways to
cope with your job. Instead of heading to the local bar, try
these cool ideas first. They'll help you keep your sanity at
work. 10 Tips to Deal with a Job You Hate 1. Leave work at work – you’ve heard this several times, I’m sure – but it is good advice and worth stressing again. When you get home, don’t think about how pissed off you were at your boss, or your customers. Spend time with your family, your dog, whomever – but leave the stresses of work at your workplace and deal with it when you have to. 2. Don’t socialize with others who also hate their job – hang with the positive people – you may find reasons to actually like your job. Don’t hang around the people who are constantly complaining (and don’t be one of those people). Complaining does nothing but bring down the morale of the people around you and fills the room with negative energy. It may be hard to find them – but there are reasons to like a job – you just need to find them. 3. Make sure to take a lunch break to refresh – and eat healthy foods. Relaxing at lunch gives you a much-needed break in the middle of the day and refreshes your energy to finish the day. Working through lunch will only make you burn out faster. 4. Take classes or read books to improve skills to move to different job – If you hate the field you are in – then change it! It’s never too late to change jobs and learn new skills. With the economy the way it is – there are plenty of incentives to go back to school. If going back to school is out of the question, look for seminars or training sessions to attend. 5. Look for another job within the company and prepare yourself for it – Talk to the people in charge of the job and find out what they are looking for. Sometimes it’s easier to find a new job within the same company than find one at a whole new company. You already know the way the company works – so you may have one-up on an outside applicant. 6. Volunteer for interesting projects at work, outside of normal job responsibilities – Fulfilling you hobbies gives you motivation to go on when nothing else seems to go right. Find a project that is in line with your hobbies and volunteer! You’ll feel good about being charitable and you’ll be doing something you enjoy at the same time. 7. Clean and organize your workspace – This may seem like a Feng Shui thing – but it’s true. If you feel comfortable in your surroundings, you will feel better. Organizing your desk will give you a sense of accomplishment while giving you a more comfortable feeling at work. 8. Take Vacations – Don’t waste your vacation days. Plan a family trip somewhere – even if it’s just camping two towns over. Vacationing has several benefits and one is refreshing your energy levels. If you live in a state with 4 seasons – take a vacation in the winter to get away from the gloomy weather. Whatever you decide – make sure you are using those vacation days well. In addition, planning a vacation will give you something to look forward to. 9. Exercise – Maybe the last thing you feel like doing is being active after a hard day at work – but it can help you tremendously. A session of exercise can be like taking an antidepressant. It releases endorphins, which naturally make you feel happier. It can be as simple as taking a walk with your spouse each evening – or get a Nintendo Wii and play some active video games. Do as much as you can manage – but shoot for at least 30 minutes a day for the most benefits. 10. Fulfill your hobbies outside of work – This may be the most important thing. Having hobbies will give you something to look forward to. You may love to read – so find a great book that you can escape into each night. If you love to cook – take a cooking class once a week. The options are endless – but so important. The worst thing you can do is have nothing in life to enjoy. Life should be enjoyable – but it’s up to you to make it that way. by Brenna
